Kyoto Station is a gate for tourists coming to Kyoto. This station is not only special due to its importance as the entrance gate of Kyoto, but also because of its futuristic architecture. Some Kyoto’s tourist attractions, such as Kiyomizudera Temple, Kyoto Aquarium, and Kyoto Tour, also can be reached from Kyoto Station on foot or by bus.

As a Muslim, Kyoto Station is more than an entrance of Kyoto for me. It is also a convenient place for Muslims to get a prayer room and halal meals in this beautiful city.

These are where you can find some Muslim friendly facilities around Kyoto Station:

1. Prayer Room at Kyoto Tower

Kyoto Tower can be reached on foot from Kyoto Station in several minutes. It is very charming in the night and you can enjoy the fascinating Kyoto city lights from its observation deck. In the praying time, Muslim tourists can use the prayer room on the third floor. Just ask the Kansai Tourist Information Center’s staff on the same floor, fill the registration form, and the staff will guide you to the prayer room. The prayer room for men and women are separated and equipped with wudhu area. To keep the privacy, the staff only allows one family or one group to use the room at one time, so please use the room wisely considering the next person waiting behind you.

2. Ayam-ya Halal Ramen

Halal ramen is very rare in Japan since most of the ramen in this country are using pork in the ingredients. However, when you are around Kyoto Station, you don’t have to worry! There is Ayam-ya Halal Ramen! Turn left after passing the bus terminal in front of Kyoto Station, take a walk for 10 to 15 minutes from Kyoto Station, and you will find Ayam-ya after crossing a bridge. In this small shop, you can taste halal ramen using halal chicken broth. It is very creamy and delicious! For spicy food lovers, you can try its spicy ramen. Trust me, it is super spicy! Prayer rooms also available in this restaurant.
