The Snow Mosque is Back!
Asahikawa Winter Festival is Hokkaido’s second largest festival held after Sapporo Snow Festival, and is the first winter festival that comes with a snow mosque! The festival will be held from February 7th to 12th, 2023, from 9:00 to 21:00 (the last day until 20:00) at the riverside of Ishikari River (on Google Maps).
Asahikawa Winter Festival 2018 and 2019 gained the world’s attention with its the-first-ever snow mosque! The appearance of the snow mosque, for sure, attracts a lot of Muslim visitors to the festival as it is no need to worry about where to pray, in addition to the rare experience because you can pray inside a snow mosque!

The festival is known as it is featuring a large snow sculpture stage – which makes it unique compared with the Sapporo Snow Festival – with a different theme for the main stage every year.
Access to The Venue
• Free shuttle bus from Asahikawa station every 30 mins (every 1 hour on 8th, 9th, and 10th).
The first bus departing from Asahikawa station to the venue is at 10:00, and the last bus leaving the venue board to Asahikawa station at 18:30.
• 10 min taxi ride from Asahikawa station.
• 10 min public bus ride from Asahikawa station and get off at Joban Kouen-mae bus stop.
