Prime Minister Abe Held an Iftar Party
Prime Minister Abe held an iftar party at Cabinet Office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo on June 3rd, inviting Representatives from 34 Islamic countries. Iftar party has been hosted by the Prime Minister or Foreign Minister every year since the first iftar party held by Prime Minister Koizumi in 2005.
This event was held to enhance mutual understanding as well as strengthen the good relationship between Japan and Islamic countries, following the significant inbound of Muslim tourists and the upcoming Rugby World Cup and Tokyo Olympic-Paralympic 2020.
In this event, halal foods were prepared to be enjoyed during iftar.
Since his inauguration, Prime Minister Abe put great importance on the relationship with Islamic countries. He visited many Muslim countries and met the leaders.
Moreover, on May 29, the governor of Tokyo, Mrs. Yuriko Koike held an iftar party, which is also recognized as an information gathering meeting, at the Tokyo Government Office inviting Ambassadors and Representatives of 47 Islamic Countries in Tokyo (details here).
