Kagawa’s next-gen udon brand brings inclusive Japanese dining to Kuala Lumpur this June
Kagawa’s iconic food culture is going global—without borders. The innovative udon brand “by age 18”, known for its plant-based and gluten-free take on traditional Sanuki udon, is set to open its first international location in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June 2025.
Address:Block A, The Five, Kompleks Pejabat Damansara, A-1-01, 5th Place, Jalan Dungun, Bukit Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Created by the Kagawa-based creative company Jinsei wa Jojo da Corporation, “by age 18” embraces the concept of “NO BORDER UDON.” It’s a vision where people of all backgrounds—whether vegan, gluten-intolerant, halal-conscious, or managing food allergies—can enjoy the same meal at the same table.

Real Udon, Reimagined
Crafted from carefully selected Japanese rice flour and prepared using a proprietary method, “by age 18” noodles offer the chewy texture and depth of flavor Sanuki udon is famous for—without any wheat or animal products. The broth, simmered with kombu, shiitake mushrooms, and a variety of vegetables, delivers umami-rich satisfaction without relying on fish or meat.
This bold and thoughtful culinary approach is supervised by Chef Kusumoto, renowned for his work at Saido, a Tokyo-based restaurant often cited as the world’s best vegan dining spot.

Perfect for Malaysia’s Diverse Food Scene
Malaysia’s multicultural, multireligious population makes it a perfect home for the brand’s inclusive philosophy. With over 60% of the population identifying as Muslim and rising interest in vegan and gluten-free dining, “by age 18” has already gained attention and support from a wide range of local communities.
The restaurant will not use mirin or any alcohol-based condiments, and no alcoholic beverages will be served—making it a safe and comfortable choice for halal diners.
