Muslim-Friendly Feast in Sapporo, Come True!
Finding food in Sapporo is one thing. Finding a Japanese dining experience that feels special, local, and suitable for Muslim travelers can be much harder.
In central Susukino, two restaurants offer very different experiences that are still uncommon in the prefecture. At Caratto, a freshly fried kushiage restaurant with halal Wagyu, Hokkaido-style buttered potato, and seasonal vegetables shares a memorably crispy experience, and at Susukino Depart, a generous Muslim friendly dinner course brings together halal Wagyu, halal lamb, seafoods selections, with unlimited soft drinks and ice cream, an ultimate dining experience to have when enjoying Japan.

Both are within easy reach of the iconic Susukino Crossing, making them practical choices for an evening in Sapporo. We’ve been there and here is what Muslim travelers should know before visiting.
Caratto: Fresh Kushiage Served One Skewer At A Time
Kushiage is a Japanese dish made by coating skewered ingredients in batter and breadcrumbs, then frying them until crisp. Although kushiage is well known in Japan, finding a restaurant that offers Muslim-friendly options featuring both halal meat and vegan choices remains unusual, especially in Hokkaido.
That is what makes Caratto worth knowing about.

Fresh From The Fryer
At Caratto, the kushiage is fried to order, means each piece can be enjoyed while the coating is still crisp and the ingredient inside is warm. It uses halal-dedicated oil and cooking wares in preparing the kushiage.
Here, diners experience a changing sequence of flavors and textures throughout the meal.

Three Seasonings, Three Different Flavors
Guests can enjoy their skewers with:

Matcha salt adds a gentle bitterness, while plain salt keeps the original ingredient at the center of the flavor. The homemade sauce gives the kushiage a richer finish. Also available chili sauce.

Don’t miss the optional order of white rice cooked in a traditional Japanese pot, adding warmth and balance between the freshly fried skewers. The white rice need about 20 minutes to be prepared and well-cooked, so be sure to also order the white rice when ordering kushiage.
