Here I am going to introduce several highlights of Shinjuku. The world’s busiest transport hub, Shinjuku Station has three main gates: East Gate, West Gate, and South Gate. Each of the gates has a different atmosphere.

East Gate: meet “Godzilla” in Kabukicho

Shinjuku East Gate

If you walk from the East Gate to Kabukicho, you might be surprised by the sudden appearance of the head of Godzilla. This “Godzilla Head” will be a perfect photo spot. You can take a good picture of the street near Don Quijote. If you walk further toward the east, there is a Laox that has a wide choice of souvenirs for Muslims.

Samurai Ramen UMAMI

Package of Samurai Ramen UMAMI

One of the recommended souvenirs available at Laox is this Samurai Ramen UMAMI. This ramen is popular among Muslims and foreign tourists because it does not contain any animal ingredients and alcohol. Chopsticks are also packed together in the golden package.

West Gate: see the spectacle of skyscrapers

Shinjuku West Gate

After getting out of the West Gate, you will see many skyscrapers. There are several shopping malls such as Odakyu Department Store and Halc Shinjuku West Gate around here. We recommend the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which is located at the end of the underground passage. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo in its 202-meter-high observation room. Opening hours are 9:30-23:00. Admission free.

South Gate: become a celebrity in Times Square

Shinjuku South Gate

It became even more convenient after New South Gate is completed. There is Shinjuku Takashimaya Times Square, where you can purchase from handicraft materials to luxury brands, near this gate. This department has a prayer room, so you do not have to worry. Some unique souvenirs can also be found in Tokyu Hands.

Shinjuku Gyoen: enjoy the changes of the seasons

Shinjuku Gyoen

If you are tired from walking crowded streets of Shinjuku, Shinjuku Gyoen will heal your tiredness. Shinjuku Gyoen, that takes 5 minutes on foot from Shinjuku Gyoemmae Station and 10 minutes from South Gate of Shinjuku Station, is exactly oasis of the city. You can comfortably enjoy beautiful natural scenery combined with English, French, and Japanese garden.

Shinjuku Gyoen Ramen Ouka

Shinjuku Gyoen Ramen Ouka

Ramen Ouka, that takes 3 minutes on foot from Shinjuku Gyoemmae Station, is a Halal certified ramen restaurant. In this very popular restaurant among Muslims, you can taste first-class ramen made of homemade noodles and aromatic soup stock of sea bream. After you finished ramen, you can also enjoy ”Chazuke” (Cooked rice poured green tea or hot water) using the rest of the soup.
