Eid al Adha is Coming Up!

We have now entered summer, and Eid al Adha is only a month away!

Eid al Adha is a day where the Muslim communities around the world celebrate a religious festival, also called the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice’. On this day, the Muslim community honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to God’s command. However, before Ibrahim could sacrifice Ismail, God provided a lamb for him to sacrifice instead.

To commemorate God’s intervention, Muslims around the world would usually purchase sheep, lamb, or cow to be ritually sacrificed on the day of Eid and divided into three parts. One share is given to the poor and the need, another is kept for home, and the last part is given to relatives.

This year, many organizations in Japan offer great deals and opportunities for you to purchase the best domestic animals for your sacrifice. Here are some options that you can consider.

Option 1: Human Initiatives Japan

Human Initiative Japan is an Indonesian-based organization that offers 4 types of sacrifice. The animals offered by Human Initiatives Japan are cows, sheep, and goats. The price varies depending on the type you wish to purchase and where you intend to for it to be distributed to. The lowest price for Qurban starts at 16,500 yen and the highest at 45,000 yen. Their service covers some African regions, Myanmar, remote areas in Indonesia, Palestine, and Syria. For more information, you can refer to their Facebook page.

Option 2: Japan Islamic Trust

Japan Islamic Trust is a Japan-based Islamic center associated with the famous Otsuka Masjid in Tokyo. This year, Japan Islamic Trust offers two types of Qurban, a sheep and a share in cow to be distributed to areas in northern Syria. The price for both types ranges around 25,000 yen, a much cheaper deal in comparison to HI Japan’s offer for its Type D offer; a sheep/goat, or a share in a cow for Palestine or Syria. For further inquiries, you may contact their contact person at kafalah2012@gmail.com (e-mail). We recommend you to remember to check the deadline and make your purchase accordingly.

Option 3: Dompet Dhuafa Japan

Similar to Human Initiatives Japan, Dompet Dhuafa Japan is the Japanese branch of an Indonesian-based organization. Unlike HI Japan, however, Dompet Dhuafa centers its distribution area only within Indonesia. They offer 4 types of Qurban, with the lowest price starting from 20,000 yen for a standard goat and sheep and the highest at 140,000 for a cow. Their price for the standard goat and the same as HI Japan, with the difference only in the area of distribution. To help you choose the best deal, we recommend you consider the need of the Muslim communities worldwide. You may ask yourself: which areas will need the most help in this time of the pandemic? The answer may help you decide the right deal for this year.

Option 4: Global Qurban by ACT for Humanity

Lastly, Global Qurban is a Qurban service offered by an Indonesian non-profit humanitarian organization, Act for Humanity, or more commonly known as ACT. The organization is best known for its humanitarian missions in times of disaster recovery in Indonesia. In comparison to the previous offers, Global Qurban does not offer a shared deal for cows. It does, however, offer a camel at 280,000 yen, unlike the other services. ACT will distribute the meat to Indonesia, Syria, Palestine, and Yemen. You may reach their contact persons for further information.

Listed above are some options for you to consider. If you’re a non-Japanesemenga citizen, you can also check the services offered in your home countries. Whatever and wherever it is that you purchase, we pray may God accept your best sacrifice and allow us to meet next year’s Eid.
