Muslims in Japan to Celebrate the End of Ramadan on Saturday
The end of Ramadan marks one of the most meaningful moments for Muslims around the world, and in Japan, the date for Eid al-Fitr in 2026 has now been officially announced.
On 19 March, 2026, the Ruyat El-Hilal Committee Japan confirmed that the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH — and therefore Eid al-Fitr — will fall on Saturday, 21 March 2026, in Japan.

Why is Eid on March 21?
The determination of Eid al-Fitr is based on the sighting of the new crescent moon. According to the announcement:
-
The new moon was not observed on 19 March 2026 (29th of Ramadan) in both Japan and Malaysia.
-
Based on established scholarly guidance, including fatwas from international Islamic authorities, Japan follows the official decision made by Malaysian Islamic authorities in such cases.
As a result, Ramadan will last 30 days, and Eid will be observed on March 21.
A Message to the Muslim Community
Along with the announcement, the committee extended heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Japan and around the world:
May Allah accept our good deeds, grant His mercy to the Ummah, and guide us to follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Celebrating Eid in Japan
For Muslims living in or visiting Japan, Eid is a time of:
-
Prayer and gratitude
-
Gathering with family and community
-
Sharing meals and joy together
While Japan is not a Muslim-majority country, Muslim communities across the country continue to celebrate Eid with unity, faith, and warmth.
As the blessed month of Ramadan comes to an end, may this Eid bring peace, happiness, and acceptance to all.
Eid Mubarak 🌙✨
