The Second Stage, “Go To Eat”

Following the Go To Travel campaign, the Japanese government starts the second stage of the “Go To” campaign, “Go To Eat” this September to support local restaurants. The area participating will be sequentially announced, starting from prefectures with low severity of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The “Go To Eat” campaign has two options.

Premium Meal Voucher

In the meantime, 33 out of a total of 47 prefectures in Japan are registered to issue a premium meal voucher which gives us 25% off. The coupon can be used at restaurants in the designated area. Some prefectures have started the sales of the voucher of 12,500 yen for 10,000 yen.

The coupon is available to use for dine-in or delivery/takeaway held by the restaurant itself (will not valid to use for delivery services). The coupon is available for purchase until January 31st, 2021, and valid until March 31st, 2021.

* Maximum purchase is 20,000 yen per person (depending on the area, it may be sold in units of 8,000 yen, and the purchase limit may be up to 16,000 yen)
* Note that there will be no change for payment with the coupon.

Okinawa

Point-based Rewards

Make a reservation on online reservation websites allows you to get point rewards, which you can use later, for making a reservation and visit restaurant during the campaign period.

For lunch, you will get points equivalent to 500 yen and points equivalent to 1,000 yen for dinner (15:00~) with a maximum of 10 people per reservation (equivalent to 10,000 yen worth of points).

Same to the meals coupon, the point rewards period is until January 31st, 2021, and the points are valid until March 31st, 2021.

Restaurant online reservation websites that can be used are 13 sites as mentioned below (according to Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries official website).
