Official Announcement by Ruyatl-e-Hilal Committee Japan Confirms Start Date for Ramadan 2026
Alhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadan is approaching once again.
On February 17, 2026, the Ruyatl-e-Hilal Committee Japan (Moon Sighting Committee Japan) officially announced that the first day of Ramadan 1447H in Japan will be Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Why February 19?
The decision was made after the moon sighting observation conducted on Sha’ban 29, 1446H (February 17, 2026). The new crescent moon was not sighted in Japan nor in Malaysia on that evening.
Based on this result and in accordance with the fatwa of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, the Ruyatl-e-Hilal Committee Japan has chosen to follow the official decision of the Islamic authorities in Malaysia.
Therefore:

For Muslims living in Japan—whether long-term residents, students, workers, or visitors—Ramadan is a special time of reflection, gratitude, and community.

-
Gathering for iftar with friends
-
Discovering halal-friendly restaurants
-
Finding prayer spaces in unexpected places
-
Experiencing the peaceful atmosphere of early morning suhoor
Ramadan here may look different from our home countries, but it carries the same spiritual warmth.
